...about 4 1/2 years ago. Threw it up on JA to see what would stick...

Next thing you know, a few guys with the same idea decided to act on it, jumped in with both feet, and built a whole new class of desert racer...

Last year the Dust Junkies joined forces with Fat City Racing, and we were 2009 Baja 1000 Class Champs in the Ten Factory sponsored Fat City Racing XJ.
I'm hearing grunt noises about a team getting together for this years 1200 mile jaunt to La Paz. It's sure to be another epic adventure, maybe my last opportunity to chase a peninsula run.
In my wildest dreams I never envisioned that a crazy idea might become reality!

I just read both of those threads from beginning to end. Wow, what a ride this has been!
We've built a car, raced it, have had great sucesses and some pretty low times. The times in Jeff Knoll's barn are times that I will never forget.
Bob and Jeff showed me Baja, and I fell in love with it. I've been to each 500 and 1000 for the last three years, either driving and winning in a race car or helping other guys working at BFG pits.
Eric and Ryan Filar, Ron Stobaugh, and the Dust Junkies racing team have teamed up again for this years 1000. We can't do it without our team. Bob and Machelle have come to every race DJR has raced since day one. They are the glue that holds this team together. Loose nut Dan, Scott Parker and Tony Briley give until they can't give any more. The prep side of racing is not glamorous, it's just hard work. Countless hours in the shop fixing and rebuilding things that just need to be done.
We have a couple local races before the 1000 and would love to have any of you come out in support of Tandi, who just happens to be one of the fastest drivers in Jeepspeed.
Sept 11th in Lucerne
Oct 9th in Barstow
Oct 16th in Parker, AZ
Nov 18th in Ensenada, MX
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO what a ride!!!

I just don't want to be "that guy" and need a chase truck to fix a chase truck
I put new batteries in it too, Optima Yellow tops. New tires, a complete service, and a light bar are still on my list. Let's see how I do before I start ragging on Scott! I don't have team logistics and a race Jeep to prep either though.
Unconfirmed, from what I could tell on IRC...Congrats to Dave Cole/Jason Scherer, Scott Hartman, and I don't remember who Jason's co dog was, on their Vegas to Reno Ultra 4 Class Championship. Looks like they finished around 1:20AM, second place car came in after 3AM.

Since I started working at the dealership 5 years ago I have been amazed at how many batteries (of all brands) go bad in this world. I've had mixed luck with Optima's. The only sure fire thing is they don't leak. The top post make them easier to use to attatch jumper cables or to rewire for 24v if needed for a welder.
What I REALLY want to do is take the truck to LJ's and have him build me a custom set up off of my camper. HID's on the front, work lights on the side and antenna mounts. I've already got the camper catching air up there, putting a light bar in front won't make things any worse as far as drag, bumper mounts block to much air to the radiator IMO (from the guy with a winch in front on both Jeep's).

for side lights i found napa has airplane runway lights, ill find the part number. its a super bright flood light that lights really evenly across the area it lights. the are available in 12v as well. the take those cheesy rubber casings or mounts to hold them.
