ok so I replaced the top and thay went well enough...so then I'm like ok i'll spend the 10 minutes and replace the 34 gear tooth speedo for 30 inch tires...with a 37 gear speedo. I removed the 7/16's bolt which removed the speedo sensor...forgot about the other 1/2 clamp that holds the gear unit in place and removed that...then removed the gear housing...all good. The gear was in pretty good and stayed in the atlas. So I used my fingers and removed it. Swapped the gears (only goes in 1 way), and put both bolts back in nice and tight and drove around the block. My speedometer no longer works now.
what could I have screwed up? do I need to drive it for a bit to make it work? is it the computer?
and no bitching about typos I did this from my phone

it is possible to spin the gear housing 180 or 90 and the gear will not contact the output shaft properly.

speedo housing is indexed based on the tooth count. You have to spin it to correspond with the right tooth count.
I'll miss the ole girl

ditto on what Ken said.
When we did my SYE, we put the speedo back in there, it didnt work, we had to turn the thing around a few times to get it back where it was when we started.
You may remember that.. you were there (and sliced your thumb open...).

well it was lined up properly the ony thing I could think of was it wasn't lined up properly. I pulled it back out and put it back in and now it's cool beans.
apparently the position it's in allows for 32-38 gearing so it was fine.
and nate it's not sliced open unless it's dangling

IIRC you wrapped it up, and kept on working one-handed. Much appreciated.
I think this was the same weekend pete lit my speaker on fire welding in my cage, and we installed my D44.
