hey ppl my friend has a 1995 yj 4cyl with auto tranny believe stock, when you put in reverse take your foot of the gas the jeep starts to move backwards on its own but when you put it in any of the forward gears you have to put quite a bit of gas to it in order to get it to move, does anybody have a clue what could be the problem or a decent way to diagnosis the problem if you need more info just ask

Sounds like the emergency brake is on. If not, you may have a stuck e-brake cable causing the brake shoes to drag. Emergency drum brakes hold a lot better in forward than they do reverse. You could jack the rear end up and try to turn the wheels manually to see if it is just one side.

Most likely it's a normal condition. Reverse is usually a lower gear ratio in the transmission than first gear is.
