Motley Hill:

The group started the day on "Motley Hill".  It consisted of a little rock ledge followed by a few sharp turns and ended with another rock ledge.  Nothing too hard, so it made for a good warm-up obstacle.  Chrispy was first and the sharp turns gave him a little trouble with the long wheelbase of the Scrambler.  About halfway through he pulled his rear drive shaft apart.  Turns out he had sheared the locating pin off of his aluminum lift blocks, so the axle slid back and pulled the drive shaft apart.  He ran the rest of the obstacle in front wheel drive.

Kerry was next, and we decided that I would ride along on this one so we could get our -5 point bonus.  Kerry ran it almost perfectly until the exit gates.  He got a little excited after making it over the last rock ledge and didn't see the exit gate on his side...... 10 points.  With our -5 bonus we ended up with 7 points for the obstacle.

Donald and Kyle were next and decided to go for their -5 bonus as well.  They were doing fine until a they had to make a couple of turns about midway through the obstacle, and Donald's FJ threw a power steering belt.  In just a few minutes they had it fixed and they were back underway.  Donald had to take a couple tries at the last ledge, and hit a flag in the process.

Last in the group was Jesse in the Mudder Truckers TJ.  His wide axles and long wheelbase made the tight turns a little tricky.  About the only problem he had was when his soft suspension allowed the body to lean over into a tree during an off camber section.

Upper Steam Shovel:
The next obstacle was "Upper Steam Shovel".  It starts with a tight turn, then a long climb up a rocky hill.  The crest of the hill leans the rigs into a tree.  After that its a rocky descent with a couple turns before it levels out.  The obstacle ends with an off camber climb and turn that gets a little tippy.  Chrispy was up first again and ran into trouble at the top of the hill.  He got stuck when the tree caught his hoop.  He finally winched himself off the tree, but timed out in the process.

Kerry was up next and again I rode along to get a second -5 point bonus.  At the crest of the hill Kerry was able to use his full cage to slide along the Jeep trapping tree that Chrispy ran into.  After that it was a little touch in the loose dirt on the down hill side, then we hit a flag that we couldn't see as we were making a turn.  After that it was on to the end where we had to back up a couple of times to get lined up for the final ledge.

Donald was next and ran the hill without much of a problem.  After hitting a couple of gates, and a couple back-ups he finished with 22 points.
Jesse finished up and almost pointed out from hitting gates, but the spotter bonus let him finish with 36 points.

Lower Steam Shovel:
This obstacle was pretty much a long rock garden.  The flags were placed so that you had to make a sharp turn entering the obstacle, then a very off camber walk over a large rock followed by a few more boulders to climb over.  Chrispy started on the obstacle then killed his battery trying to get his engine started after it stalled on the steep entrance.

Kerry was next and hit one flag entering the obstacle because I didn't warn him quickly enough.  After that we put a strap on his roll cage to keep him stable over the off camber rock.  I leaned into the strap, and he made it through just fine.  Next he had to climb over the large boulders, and got lined up right into a flag, so he got another 10 points.  After that it was a fairly easy run to the exit gates.

Donald was next and ran it just about the way Kerry did.  Kyle on the strap kept him stable through the off camber part.  He finished with just one more point than Kerry had on the obstacle.

Jesse's wide axles gave him some trouble, but he didn't need a strap to keep him stable over the off camber rock.  He finally pointed out with 40 points.

Dozer Pile:
Next we ran Dozer Pile.  It was supposed to be part of the 2nd section, but we got a little turned around and ran it instead of Andy's Crack.  Dozer Pile is short obstacle that was simply a pile of rocks.  Chrispy got his rig straightened out, so he was up first and didn't have any problems here.  Kerry was next and ran it perfectly... 0 points.  Donald also had a perfect zero point run.  And finally Jesse with 32 points.

Andy's Crack:
This one starts with a large rock ledge, then turns and is fairly easy after that.  Chrispy started out the group again, but had trouble with the engine flooding out on the steep ledge.  After trying a few times he killed his battery again.  At that point we pulled him back off the ledge, and he called it a day.

Kerry was next and made it up the ledge fairly easily.  After that I spotted him a little too close to a flag during a turn, so we got another 10 points.  After that it was smooth sailing.

Donald was next and had some problems with the steep rock ledge.  It walked him over into the tree and a flag.  He finally had to winch up and then pointed out when he hit a flag at the exit gate.

Triple Winch:
This one was ugly!  The entrance was almost a right hand turn down and over a large rock ledge.  After looking it over for a while Kerry and I decided that he would back into the obstacle, take a point for backing up, and then be set up for the rest of the obstacle.  It theory it was a decent idea, but it turned quickly into a mess.  Kerry got pinned between the entrance ledge and the hill on the other side.  We tried to get him turned around, but after a few tries, he broke a front axle shaft.  At that point we decided it would take too long to change the shaft, so we winched him out of the entrance.  We also noticed a leak coming from the transfer case.  After further inspection we decided not to risk and further damage on the last 2 obstacles.  At the time we couldn't see where the leak was coming from, but later Kerry found that the front half of the 231 was cracked.  It appears that the front drive shaft was pushed back into the case.

We were down to 2 members of group B remaining.  Donald was next and pulled straight down into the entrance.  He hit one entrance flag and had to back up a few times to make the turn.  He managed to point out before then end because of a couple other flags.

Jesse was next and tried Kerry's tactic of backing into the entrance.  That worked for him, but he hit a flag on the way in.  After the turn his flex-steer pushed the rear tires into another flag.  It took him a few tries to make it up the next ledge, and right at the end he hit another flag which pushed him over the 40 point limit.

Here is a video clip of Jesse exiting Triple Winch:
Table Top:
Donald was first on Table Top now that Kerry and Chrispy were out of the picture.  This obstacle is simply a steep ledge onto the table top, and then back down through the same gates.  Donald and Kyle started by stacking as many rocks as they could find.  Then Donald launched the FJ onto the top and put on a nice show for the crowd.  Then Kyle grabbed a strap to keep the FJ from endo-ing as Donald backed it down.

Jesse ran Table Top while Donald went on to Battleship.  He took a couple of attempts to make it up.  His long control arms actually caught on the ledge at one point.  But he made it through with 2 points.

Battleship:

MED RES     HI RES

Donald was first again for Battleship.  This obstacle consists of a large, off camber, uphill rock climb with a sharp turn and another climb on loose dirt and rock.  Donald had to back off a few times to get the right line.  After he made it past the first section he got stuck with a tree behind his roll cage as he made the turn.  WIth a little work, and some help from Kyle on the strap, he made the turn, then made it up the last climb.

Jesse pulled up next and put on a good show as his TJ pulled quite a wheelie going up the first section.  He scraped his passenger side quarter panel from the door back to the corner on the entrance.  With a little work, and a few more lifted tires, he made it through the turn, then launched it to the top of the obstacle.
