Wow. That is impressive. I would have just gone with a new tub. I hate body work.
By Jeep Guru - 7/15/2006 1:40:01 AM
I do hate those little setbacks as well. You could always buy the parts kit and take the one needle and then return it. I guarantee they won't notice.
By Jeeperrick - 7/3/2006 11:21:18 AM
You’re committed now...or is it you out to be committed now?Big Smile Didn’t you just buy that thing? What are the plans for it, just to make it a solid, reliable clean driver, or are you going all out big for hard core trails?
By Sarges 7 - 8/23/2006 9:02:16 PM
Lookin' good! Nice thing is, rear main seal is pretty damn easy.
By Sarges 7 - 2/9/2007 10:39:48 PM
Looks like a pretty good job!! I love that color!!

jesus... yer really going to town on that thing...
By xterminatoration - 6/25/2006 9:30:01 AM
Here are some pics of my CJ. Today my concern was to cut out the rusty old panels.

As you can see the passenger rocker panel was pretty bad

Driver side was not quite as bad.

The hood looks like it had some body filler work that was done poorly

After most of the body work is done i plan on dropping the T-Case and Tranny and installing some new seals and gaskets.

I picked it up about 4 weeks ago for $1500. It runs and drives perfect. I plan on making it a clean driver as well as somthing i am not afraid to go beat up a little bit. Everything that is being reused ( Frame, body, axles etc...) is getting new paint as well has some work on the body. Im planning on a mild lift. Have been looking at the 4" Skyjacker lift. For tires ill most likely be running 33's. Cool
By xterminatoration - 7/3/2006 2:01:22 PM
Had nothing better to do so i made some cardboard templates while my replacement panels are STILL on back order.
By xterminatoration - 2/12/2007 10:01:00 AM
Was just taking it easy today so here is what I got done.

Installed the body, front grill, radiator, radiator hoses, tailgate, heater core hoses, Heater plenum, pedal assembly, Throttle pedal and linkage, brake booster, clutch assembly, battery tray and steering column.

If it’s not raining to bad tomorrow ill probably get a little more done

sorry i already have taken the paint booth down. I planned on just making a small one with the plastic i got left for my hood and fenders. Plus i dont think id be able to make room in the garage for a full jeep. Was tight enough as is with just the tub. The paint gun i used with kinda a cheapo one so it kinda has some orange peel texture too it. Would feel kinda guilty if it didnt turn out. Dont really have the experience to start doing other peoples ridesDead. Plus i only got about a month to get the Jeep done before a move to texas for about a half a year. I know macco normally has deals for $300 on a complete paint job. sorry about that.
-Allen
By xterminatoration - 2/21/2007 12:11:23 PM
i got all the eletrical and vacuum done on the jeep today. Fuel cell showed up too. Finally got to start it. Just a few more weeks of misc things.

Yea i have had the Jeep for just about 6 months. Had to stop working on it about 3 months ago because my daily driver decided to take a crap on me with countless problems and had to get a new vehicle.
By xterminatoration - 1/31/2007 11:37:12 AM
Not to much done today Just some undercoating that took just about the whole day to dry.

And look what the ups truck left at the door.

By xterminatoration - 2/7/2007 1:27:45 PM
Here is the body after some paint stripper and a little body work

Here this is where it sits now waiting for primer and paint tomorrow
By xterminatoration - 2/8/2007 11:33:50 AM
ha naw the vinegar thing is just what i pour old oil into. makes it easy to dump it at auto zone.
By xterminatoration - 2/9/2007 7:02:01 PM
Today seemed like a good day for paint so here is what i got so far.

Still have to paint the fenders and hood next weekBig Smile
By xterminatoration - 2/11/2007 12:22:47 PM
Hey now that color code is a little secret lol J/K. I really dont know the color code. I went through TCPGlobal for paint and primer. Very pleased with their quick shipping and service. If you click this link http://www.tcpglobal.com/restorationshop/rspcolors.aspx you can see an entire list of their colors on hand. Im sure they can mix other colors as well. I went with olive drab down in the greens section.

Im workin on it. As soon as i can get a new tub things should really start coming together. This damn thing is sucking up any money i come across FroBlow
By xterminatoration - 8/19/2006 2:59:26 PM
Here were the goodies i found when i got the cage off the tub and when i also decided its time for a new one. I dont have pics of it but the driver front body mount point was completly rusted out and gone and a few others were on the way. Im going to go for a YJ tub.

By xterminatoration - 8/23/2006 5:56:10 PM
Today i finished resembling the tranny after doing an inspection of all the inners. Everything looked great. I got it all sealed up and added a fresh coat of paint. Now im just waiting to tackle the rear main seal before installing. Headbangin

Check out that custom oil in the bellhousing from that damn rear main sealBig Smile
By xterminatoration - 1/30/2007 2:23:36 PM
Finally back to working on the CJ. Been busy the last few months and didnt have the money to keep going. Finally got the parts to get my transfer case back togther, got the drive shafts in and have my YJ tub on the frame that i picked up from Scottys Jeep truck and 4x4 today. Only one minor dent on the tub below the gas filler hole. Should be easy to beat out and some body filler to smooth it out. I plan on preping the body and painting it later next week if the paint shows up. Olive drab ofcourse. Only $89 for the complete single stage paint kit with reducers and hardenersBig Smile
Pic sample from TCP Global

This is all i got for pics so far:

Yea i know what you mean. But $450 seemed reasonable for the tub. Only place i knew of in CA where i could get one.
By xterminatoration - 7/4/2006 12:53:57 PM
This is becoming more work than i thought it would beShockToday i removed the Transfer case, Front fenders, rear floor pan and other misc crap.

I think im gonna pick up a tranny jack for the tranny. This thing nearly took off my finger. I was a dumb ass and though i could just pull it off lol. Little heavier than it looks.

Here is some rust if you dont know what it looks like Wink

Rear floor pan took up a better part of the day.
By xterminatoration - 7/5/2006 12:12:47 PM
Its not quite as bad as it looks. All the replacment panles only cost me $90. The problem spots were just the rear floor pan and the rocker panels. I only have in about 3 or 4 hours removing the panels.

lol yea. Im only doing it because this is a complete budget build.
By xterminatoration - 7/5/2006 3:20:36 PM
Didnt get to much done today. Only had time for about an hour or so of work.

As you can tell this was one hell of a leaker. THis is even after i cleaned it with degreaserShock

Had to get creative with a steering wheel puller here. The yokes were on there pretty damn good.

The rebuilt input shaft assemblyCool Told you i didnt get much done lol

By xterminatoration - 7/14/2006 3:30:40 PM

I finally got back to my transfer case after about a week now. Guess ill have to wait another to complete it. I am missing a SINLGE NEEDLE BEARING!! for the intermediate shaft. I hate these little set backsDead
Does anybody have some needle bearings laying around from an old dana 300 rebuild? I dont really feel like spending $40 bux for a small parts kit.
By xterminatoration - 8/19/2006 10:34:37 AM
Here is my progress so far: Frame has been cleaned and painted, Axles have new paint gaskets seals, Skyjacker 4 inch installed, plus other misc stuff trans and T case related.

By scherf68 - 2/12/2007 11:56:00 AM

No big deal, I was thinking of trying it myself, really want to paint it the olive drab. I was thinking of stripping it down and driving it over to maaco, don't want to put money into what is going to get scratched.
By Button - 8/19/2006 2:54:12 PM
thats going to be realy nice when it's done, looks like a great job so far.

By Scotty - 7/5/2006 12:02:36 PM
You'd be better off finding a used YJ tub at this point for $500. Your time alone is worth more than that.

When I re-did my CJ7 7yrs ago, it took me forever just to get it roadworthy again. Wish I would have just bought a decent used tub to save the build time and my wife's patience.
