I know I don't hang around here as much anymore, but still had to share the latest transformation of the little YJ.

Finished the major parts of the current list of projects, which included the fuel cell install and XJ spring stretch. Sounds simple, and really isn't too hard, but alot of little things to address in order to make it reality...new front and rear spring mounts, lengthen driveshaft and traction bar, longer brake line, hoses and fittings and bushings, oh my! But all that's left now is a couple nuts & bolts things and new shocks will be on this Fri. Wheeling Sunday!!

Oh yeah...duh...Wheelbase is now 104"! Woohoo!

Next up is installation of the gears and hydro-assist sitting in the garage.

And next you're going to post a write up on what you did, right?? Smile

Looks rad! What's the stretch now? How much did front and rear move?
By Tom Jacobson - 3/10/2008 2:36:05 PM
Write-up? How about we just say that a picture says a thousand words!?!?!

Front was already forward about 2" from running 44044 Waggy springs backwards. And I think stock YJ is 95" wheelbase? So that's mean 7-8" from the XJ springs...but that includes moving the frame-end spring mount backwards 2" for those rear springs. In the stock mount location, the shackle angle was horrible (vertical!).

Can't wait to wheel it. I've got a bone to pick with a few waterfalls!!!Beers

Looks great!

looks good. I'll be doing mine shortly. Working on my compcut corners and sliders now.

Nice. That's gonna make all the difference on the ledges.

Looks like you could stand to ditch the body lift, or step up a couple tire sizes.

Looking good, Tom.
Is a fuel cell street legal in Az?
Will the rig smog?
By Tom Jacobson - 3/11/2008 2:11:53 AM
Bob -

Legal...yeah, I think so.
Smog-able...nope. Couldn't pass the gas cap pressure (charcoal canister) test. I'm not registered in the city anyway, so haven't tested for emissions in a while.

Russ -

Body lift is only 1", and is actually my body mount now (Daystar kit). It's gonna stay...since it works good with the motor mount lift, allows room to bring my t-case up even further, and actually does help in some cases while working on the Jeep (example: was nice to have that extra inch of clearance just this weekend while hooking up the new fuel lines!)

Tire size is only limited by the D30! Running 36's now. Don't plan on more than a 37 (ie. Creepy) in all honesty

Looks great! do you have any pics of the rear shackle mounts?

Hopefully I'll be running in the 08' Marathon, good to finally meet the elusive Al at last years.

See ya Sunday Tom, I will have my rig but won't be running the Alley with you guys as I am still waiting for a locker and Alloys. Wish I had'm cause I really want that first fall on the Alley, I could make all the others without a cable before my build just not the first one. Just want to get out, I'll just tool around and watch everyone thrash about on the falls.

EXCELLENT!!! Will save you a seat, and we'll have to aim for both days this year. Some of the trails in Table Mesa are just awesome.

Better yet, get yourself a damn JEEP and be my team-mate!

Derek - See you Sunday. However...we'll see about you driving AA or not. Miller did it in Lil Blackie! Big Smile
