I'm in Moab (Mother of all Bombs) for the easter Jeep Safari and have deceided to spend some money foolshly on my jeep. A teralow will set me back a grand while the atlas 2 will be around 2500. I can use the atlas 2 if I upgrade my transmission but can only use the teralow in my np-231. I want to be a crawling fool (I'm half there)

Any thoughts??

My RigRater Score: 538RRv1.0 with a BOA of 18.92

that's kind of what I'm thinking I can always use the Altas 2 in a new transmission plus I'll get the super low gearing that I want.

Thanks

Gearing ya, but strength is huge. Have you considered the Stak case? If I didn't already have an atlas sitting here I'd be buying one of these.

3 speed and 2 speed

the new atlas 4 speed is a joke. Worthless ratios...all they did was bolt 231 planataries to the front of an atlas...GAY

The 2-speed Stak is a pretty good deal at $1899 for any of their ratios. I'd go 5.44:1. The 3-speed's $2799, which isn't bad either. The only down side is that it uses a magentic puckup for the VSS. This means it will be off unless you get a self-calibrating speedometer. I believe with the Atlas you get the standard speedometer gear setup unless you get the specify. This adds 2" to the Atlas though. AA's price is $2635 for their 5.0:1 and their 3.03:1 & 2:1 is $2195. For the price of the 5.0 you might as well get a Stak 3-speed. Hopefully, AA will drop their prices since they're not the only show in town anymore.

I tried to do it once, but I'm not locked in the front. you don't really go anywhere with the weak side tire grinding dirt. but I love 2-lo for backing up trailer into tight spots(like a short wheelbase tow mule- like the kind at airports) or goofing off in gridlock at .3 mph.
