Check the resistor wire to the Ignition. Check to see if you have a fuel line too close to a heat source, if you run a manual fuel pump. Aside from that, start chasing wires and looking for bad connections. Clean em as you look at them and put a film of dielectric grease on each contact point.

day 3..$250..later...u were right ign is acting funny..tries to make contact and run only when it is at the down"run" position....what is "resistor wire" anyone?..is that from the ign itself or the ignition module under the hood?..i did find a 3 strand silver wire from the firewall to half way accross the block...the like all of the others is where whoever had the fire spliced everything...

Ran into simular condition, Turned out to be a vac leak at the carb base ( can be on inout side ) if you have not replaced the original intake and exhaust gaket you could have the leak there. I found a new carb online for aprx 168 and bought it with new gaskets, This cured my poblem like yours , it was apparently leaking in the base of the carb and the intake bolts were not to spec ( went ahead and repaced the mainfold gaskets with the up graded ones ( they figured they had a poblem so now the kits come with the fix . all together cost with CARB and Gasket set was 300.00 and she runs like a Stripped ape
Test using cleaner fluid if you spay an area and the motor ideals up then you have a vacume leak .... good luck email me if you cant figure it out and I will see what else I can think of ... for grinns you may also check pressure on eace cyl to ssee if its off by more than 30% between any cyl then you have an internal problem ..
This is my 5 the rebuild

everything from the odd fire to the I _4
