Ok.....got the 350 in the Willys tuned/timed. I adjusted the rockers, all is good except #7 exhuast. It can be tightened to the point of being lashed, then a little more. Valve covers on..all is good. After 10 minutes or so, it starts to tap. Then tap, tap, tap..... Could I use lock-tite on it? I thought about geting it set/lashed, then "pinning it" with the few light taps of a cold chisel. Is this a good idea? Any thoughts? Engine runs great for a few minutes, then tap, tap, tap......

Did you break in the cam? You could have a lobe being wiped out. Could be a lifter or the stud being pulled out. Your chisel idea might work if thats the problem. Good luck.

Motor pretty much sat for 10 yrs. Cam/motor was broke in well before it sat. Stud seems to stay tight. Just the nut/stud bind that loosens up. Do rocker arm nuts/stud nuts have some sort of "stop" thread or nylon locker? Could I take the nut off and put a pinch on of the last threads out so it has some bite?

Napa should have a new nut, give that a try. Summit sells posi locks that have an allen set screw to prevnt it from backing off. I think a new self locking nut should do the trick.

Yup...got it I think. I took the nut off and"dinked" the last thread with a center punch. So far it has enough friction to hold and no tap.....so far. It'll get fixed right eventually. Runs great now...little smokey....maybe a little rich.

Also, I noticed when setting the lash this time.....I could set it, hold the socket still wait 10 seconds, then light tapping would start again. Set a little tighter, quiets..... gets a little tap...tighten more.......quiets for good. Could the hydralic lifter had some crud in it causing no "preload" of the lifter itself, I'm not too knowledgable about this whole system....just enough to set lash. Later, Brad

Absolutly. You could have a lifter sticking. It may be bottomed out now.

Should I try to back it out a little down the road? Maybe when it's un-stuck. I put a little ATF it it recently, and that's why it may have worked loose a couple of times. I assume either way that bottoming out is bad right?

Yes, in this case bottoming out is not a good thing. It's a good thing that you caught it early.
Sure you might get lost, But don't worry you're biodegradable!
