Have a problem.  I have a stock 2006 LJ with 40K miles.  I bought it 20k miles ago and it had limited shimmy in the front end.  Changed the stabilizer and all was good.  Happened again 5k miles later so I changed the stabilizer again.  Now my wobble seems to have gotten much worse.  It's become almost undriveable above 50mph. Below 50mph all is fine.

I tightened up the track bar.  Seems to have helped minutely but stills goes nuts at 50.  None of the steering components are loose.  Everything is tight as could be.  Although, I do notice some oscillating tire noises at higher speeds. I checked the bearings and all is good.

Could it just be that I need alignment??  Would this get progressively worse over time? Also, Im thinking about replacing the track bar and bushing to see if that helps.  Could a bad track bar bushing really have that much of an effect on death wobble??

Ball joints, Tie rod ends, bearings and control arms are fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Have you done any upgrades at all to any of the components you mentioned, or did the PO do any?

Have you had the tires balanced recently?

I have tried rotating my tires with no resolution to the problem.    The previous owner nor myself has done any upgrades of any kind,.......yet Pinch

Im gonna check the track bar tonight while the wheels are on the ground with the engine running to see if there is any flex in the track bar bushing.   I just cant believe a bad bushing could create such excessive shaking.

Also, one thing i failed to mention was that my problem is only between 50-57 mph.  Anything above or below doesnt create death wobble, though I do notice some mundane vibration in the steering wheel at 60+mph

Thanks again!

Check the mounting hole for the track bar. If it has wallowed out it can cause that. The alignment can cause that. Check the tire balance. Check the mounts for the control arms. The cam bolts will slip and sometimes move. I had to have my adjustment washers welded in. Make sure if the control arms are adjustable that they are set to the correct length.

I had someone turn the steering wheel while I looked at the linkage.  After closer inspection it seems that I am getting about 1/8-1/4" play in the track bar bushing.   I'm going to presume that this is the cause of my death wobble as the whole axle plays about 1/4" in each direction when turning the steering wheel.

I doubt that it's the bushing.  Have the tires been balanced, alignment checked?  Start with the basics before you start swapping parts out.

I speak from experience, I've swapped a transmission out, retested, rebuilt the transfer case, retested, installed motor mount and 1" body lift to correct driveshaft angles, retested, all to verify that a driveline vibration I developed was in fact a worn CV joint in the rear driveshaft!

Yeah I hear you. I swapped the track bar and it helped, a lot. But, it hasn't eliminated the problem. I brought itin for alignment and wheel balance. We'll see what happens. The funny part is the cheapest part was the track bar. Alignment costs over 100 bucks now. They're charging me 60 bucks to rebalance.

Well, my LJ still has stock suspension and tires.  I changed the stabilizer and the track bar(helped a lot)  and had wheels rebalanced and aligned.  Still no good.  I'm beginning to think it's my tires.  Or, possibly the wheel bearings which I , and everyone else, checked and deemed fine.  There's just something causing vibration around 53-57.  When I look out the window I can see the wheel oscillating a bit at those between those speeds.  Terribly annoying. I wish I had enough money to buy a road car and make this strictly off road.
