What would be a good front and rear axle swap for an 88 yj. I have a dana 30 and 35 and would like a better gear ratio for the trails and a sturdier axle. I will be running 35" tires. I think the ratio I have now is 3.05. I am running 33"ers at the time and I can't use 5th gear w/out loosing tons of power. I would just like to know what to be looking out for.

waggie axles front and rear are popular. also, some guys just replace the 35 with an 8.8 and keep the 30 in the front and regrear/lock both

Swap out the shafts in the D30 mith Cro-Mo shafts with 760X u-joints in them and your junk will be just as strong as a D44 in front. Lock-Rite/EZ-Locker will work just fine, can be geared as low as 4.88:1, which is what I'd go to.
Explorer axle is probably the easiest swap for the rear, as mentioned. I forget the year cut off, the preferable model will have rear disc brakes.

Keep looking. I think the disc brake version also has a higher spline count on the axle shafts.

Look for a V8 Limited Ford Explorer.
