My AR.Drone arrived in the mail today, so I took some videos along the way. Turned into an actual "review" of sorts...sorta.
Anyway, includes an unboxing, my first flight (indoors, mistake) including a crash in the sink! Then an outdoor flight and some of my comments on the quadricopter. Fun!
The unit has intelligence in it in order to help keep it in place (hover)...turns out in tight spaces the downdraft this thing puts out interferes by pushing it around. I blame that for the crash. I'm sure it had nothing to do with pilot error. <chuckle>

Pavi wanted to eat it, but she learned pretty quick. <laughs> No Android app that I know of yet. You can buy them at Brookstone and I think they just added Amazon.

Oh, that is too cool. :-) How long does the main battery last on a full charge, and can you save the video from the onboard camera?

Seems like I only get about 10 minutes out of a full charge. That's the only downfall of the thing really... 10 min is with me flying it pretty hard (sharp turns, elevation changes, etc). I haven't found a way to record the video yet. I jailbroke my iPhone, and am looking for an app that will let me record the screen...regardless of what you're doing. If I can find that app then it should be able to record...but, no avail yet.

That thing is awesome! Like a RC helicopter, but MUCH easier to use/control. Price?? I think this was mentioned a while back, but the "shenanagen factor" is way high with this thing. Sounds like it is quiet enough for a little "night-ops". Run time, like you said, is lacking, but 10-15 minutes with 4 props. spinning is alot of energy for a battery pack to hold. What is the "range" of this thing? We talking 50 ft.? 200 ft.?

Al, if you can figure out how to record video, you might have found a new toy that allows you to get really close to offroad action without the danger of anybody getting hurt. Super cool how you did this.

From what i understand, the connection from your phone to the drone is over a network connection. So, your phone connects to a wireless network, and the drone also connects to the wireless network.
This could mean that you could pilot this thing using the internet, but not knowing more about it, that's just speculation.
Maybe Al can fill in the blanks there. If it really does use WiFi network access, then how does it work when you're out in the middle of nowhere?

It's a direct connect WiFi network, so you don't need a 3rd party router. The AR.Drone is the router that you connect to...so, range is going to be based on capabilities of your iPhone and the AR.Drone, which I haven't tested yet.
I wouldn't call it quiet though, you ain't sneakin' up on anyone with this thing! <laughs> It's not blistering loud by and stretch, but it's far from stealth.
