Hopefully a few people are still reading this site and will answer! ;-)

My family and I will be in Big Bear the week of June 29 - July 6 for vacation.  It's been a good 10+ years since we were last there, so a) I don't remember anything! and b) am sure things have changed at least a little bit.

We're taking our mtn bikes and am planning to get the wife and kid (8yrs old) up for at least one run down the lift served bike trails.  I'm hoping to get back for a full day of play-time, myself!  Does anyone know of any other nice, family friendly (ie. beginner) type rides in the area?  Have heard there's a nice trail around the lake for some nice, easy enjoyment.

I'm just driving a stock 4x4 Yukon (2001), so any "real wheeling" is out of the question, but any recomendations for nearby Forest Roads to check out?  Any particular destination...waterfalls, mines, etc?

And welcome any restaurant recommendations as well.  We're down-home, cafe, local wood-cabin bar, something unique to the area type people, so no need for anything 5-star!

Any other "can't miss" activities we should check while up there?  Rent a fishing boat/canoe?  Heard the 4th of July fireworks are pretty good, too.

Thanks!

Tom

I haven't a clue to what/where one does mountain biking in Big Bear or anywhere.

There is a place called the Discovery Center up there that's run by the forest service that has lots of info.

Hello Tom. Here's a good family ride with a cool destination:

Big Bear is a good spot to beat the heat, pretty laid back.

Tom,

Paoli's in the village has great pizza. It's on the SE corner of Pine Knott Blvd and Village Dr.

Chad's Place (also in the Village) has late night dancing and drinking. It's a dive but lots of fun.

There are miles of non 4x4 trails on the north side of the lake. I'd recomend Van Dusen Canyon Rd. It's just north of the airport off Hwy 38.

Get some early seats at  Meadow Park along the jetty to watch the firewoks. (Corner of Park and Knight Ave.)

Chad's place is a good time like Steve said. You might make it to the rock garden off gold mountain trail, its very cool. Off the back side towards baldwin lake. Nice views about 1/2 way up.
